Flying Commercial

There are now multiple reliable commercial options to get you to Long Island, Bahamas:

Direct Flights from Fort Lauderdale

  • Makers Air: This new airline offers direct flights from Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport (FXE) to Long Island, Bahamas. It’s a fantastic way to skip Nassau and arrive directly on the island without hassle.

Flying Through Nassau (NAS)

If you’re flying commercial, you can connect through Nassau to reach Long Island. It’s recommended to arrange the Nassau-to-Long Island portion first.

  • BahamasAir (National Carrier)
    • Daily flights from Nassau to Deadman’s Cay (LGI), usually in the early afternoon.
    • Best days to travel: Tuesday and Saturday, as they align well with early morning international flights into Nassau.
  • Tropic Air Charters
    • Local airline offering daily flights from Nassau to Long Island (Deadman’s Cay and Stella Maris).
    • Flights are available early morning or mid-afternoon, with a Tuesday morning-only flight schedule.
  • Stella Maris Air
    • Operated by Stella Maris Resort, this airline offers by-the-seat charter service from Nassau and Exuma to Long Island.
    • Perfect for tight connections as long as the plane arrives before sunset.
  • Important Travel Tips When Connecting Through Nassau
    • Allow at least 2 hours between your international arrival and your domestic connection.
    • When departing, remember you’ll clear U.S. Customs in Nassau, so allow extra time, especially during busy travel seasons.
    Pro Tip: Use the “Connecting Flights” immigration line (on the left) to save time. Don’t forget to collect your luggage at customs and re-check it for your domestic flight to Long Island.

Another Option: Fly Into Georgetown, Exuma

Another way to reach Long Island is by flying into Georgetown Exuma International Airport (GGT) and then taking a cab to the Sheep Ferry Dock. From there, you can hop on the Sheep Ferry, which runs between Exuma and Long Island. This route offers a scenic journey and is a great alternative if Nassau connections don’t fit your schedule.

For travelers needing an overnight stay in Nassau, here are some recommended accommodations close to the airport and the sea:
